Thuro Metal Products, Inc. (TMP)
was founded in January 1971 by Albert Thuro, a highly-skilled
technician, educated in Germany, who then emigrated to the United
States. Before founding TMP, Mr. Thuro held prestigious positions in
the Machine-Tool Industry and also served a tour of duty in the U.S.
Army.
In 1993 David Thuro graduated from the
University of Binghamton (N.Y.) with an Associate's degree in Business
Administration and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. He then
joined TMP full-time as Plant Manager of the Brentwood facility. David
actually "came up through the ranks", having gotten "hands on"
experience in all phases of manufacturing during summers and school
holidays. He assumed the Presidency of the Thuro-owned companies in
1999.
During the 1970’s and 1980’s TMP became a
leading supplier of precision hydraulic fittings and component parts
used in military aircraft. In 1976, a 9,000 sq. ft. manufacturing
facility was purchased in Amityville, New York. In 1978, Thuro was one
of the first job shops in the industry to purchase a CNC controlled
lathe, and subsequently, an increasing number of additional CNC lathes
and milling machines, as well as many conventional multi and single
spindle automatics and support equipment, were added to support growing
customer demand. In 1982 the present facility, a 25,000 sq. ft.
building located in Brentwood, New York, was built.
In 1990 a major expansion was undertaken by the Thuro family, with the incorporation of NYTEX Automatic Products, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Thuro Metal Products, located in Fredericksburg, Texas. NYTEX is a state-of-the-art, high volume manufacturer of turned parts, utilizing multi-spindle precision screw machines. NYTEX customers include some of the largest companies in the oil field services industry.
Beginning in the early 1990’s, TMP transitioned its customer base from primarily military to 95% commercial. In 1995 Thuro became a Tier 1 supplier to the automotive industry, shipping millions of component parts directly to assembly lines in the U.S. and Mexico.
In July of 1998, TMP added 27,500 square ft. of space to separately house it’s screw machine and assembly departments. The original facility now serves as company headquarters and its manufacturing space has been renovated into a state-of-the-art precision machining facility, utilizing the latest technology in CNC turning and milling equipment.
Long before the terms "Empowerment" and "Total Quality Management" became catch phrases, TMP's quality procedures were instituted with the concept that every operator is an operator/inspector. Through innovative gage design, and with a skilled tooling department to produce gages, complex parts can be accurately and quickly checked by the machine operators right at the machining center. The nurturing and growth that this concept fosters has been a key component of our success. Coupled with digital readout gauging that supports direct input using SPC software, TMP ensures that all products meet ISO 9001:2000 and QS9000 world-class quality standards.
