AS 9100

In 2008, Thuro received a grant from New York State to further enhance the Quality Management System in preparation for certification to the AS9100 standard. This entailed revamping and completely modernizing our business systems to support effective and efficient document control. These enhancements were in response to the growing need and requirement for effective and efficient distribution of internal, as well as external work instructions, standards and specifications. This enabled Thuro to provide document distribution and secure access regardless of the physical location. The upgrade also allowed easy access to job-related documents, with accurate and timely review of vendor processing certifications which in turn streamlined the creation of certification packages. Our auditing and purchasing processes in 2008 were rewritten to cover many of the additional requirements of the AS9100 Standard.

ThuroAerospace & Defense Quality Management and Tools

Thuro is certified to the AS9100 standard. As our history indicates, our present-day Quality Management System was built and then maintained for almost 20 years to conform to the Aerospace Standard at that time. The initial AS9100 Standard released in 1999, contained all of the elements of our core IS0 9001 system, while adding additional requirements related to component quality and safety. As of 2013, Thuro elected not to seek third party registration to the AS9102 Rev. 3 Standard. However, Thuro still meets all the requirements of customer Purchase Orders accepted, and maintains, or where necessary, purchases all standards called out on customer purchase orders and part drawings to meet customer requirements.

The majority of the components we supply related to the defense industry are used in aircraft or aircraft- support systems. Thuro adheres to all the required elements for our contracts with the Defense Logistics Agency. Often this entails using elements which are in accordance with the AS9100 standards. Thuro Metal Products is also ITAR certified.

ISO 9001

In 2003, Thuro was certified by a third party registrar to the ISO 9001 standard and has maintained continuous certification since then. As of 2013, Thuro is presently certified to the latest revision which is ISO 9001:2008.

NADCAP -Certified Vendors

Thuro maintains an extensive vendor base and audits, approves and designates those vendors who are approved to process our product according to Aerospace Standards. This often involves using NADCAP-certified vendors for Aerospace components. Where required, First Article Inspections (FAI) are in accordance with the AS 9102 Rev. A format.

ThuroAutomotive Quality Management and Tools

Thuro is complaint with TS 16949 standard and is audited annually by our customers who are certified to the TS 16949 standard. Thuro maintains the systems, tools and trained personnel to service our customers who operate under the TS 16949 Standard. This includes not only providing the forms and documents necessary, but having a fundamental understanding of the Automotive Pre-Production Approval Process, also known as PPAP, including a full companywide understanding of all industry terms and practices. This means Thuro is able to provide a full Level III PPAP when required. Companywide, we have adopted the 8 disciplines of problem-solving for effectively defining, containing and eliminating quality spills, by identifying and addressing root causes.

Providing and meeting all of the ISO 9001:2008 requirements is typically adequate for our customers who fit into the commercial and industrial equipment category. However, by dealing with Thuro, a firm that supplies critical components to the Automotive Industry, our industrial customers who have medium to high volume part requirements, also benefit from the practices and procedures learned and practiced by our team for Automotive programs.

Of late, there seems to be a shift in the industry toward the moving to one standard, the ISO 9001-2008 standard, in lieu of attempting to run an organization under multiple Quality Management Systems. Thuro realizes the importance to all stake-holders of implementing, maintaining and constantly improving upon a Business Management System in accordance with the ISO 9001:2008 standard and maintaining certification with a third party registrar. The ISO 9001 standard is the logical extension and replacement of MIL-I-45208 and is the foundation of both the TS 16949 and AS9100 standards.

Thuro is committed to implementing and putting into practice, any additional elements required under TS 16949 and AS9100, whether they are customer-directed or deemed as “best practice.” Thuro is also frequently audited by customers who run their own organizations under the TS 16949 or AS9100 standard. At the start of a new audit, our policy is to share the results of these ongoing, third party audits. For TS 16949 and AS9100 certified customers, this often streamlines the time and cost for the approval of new programs launched at Thuro Metal Products.
